Chelsea Physic Garden Winter Opening
6th to 14th February 2010 (weekends only)
Chelsea Physic Garden, 66 Royal Hospital Garden, Chelsea, London SW3 4HS
Chelsea Physic Garden in London February 2010

Chelsea Physic Garden is normally closed during the Winter but opens for just the two weekends in February for visitors to stroll through, enjoying the winter b ulbs – snowdrops and more – in this historic botanical garden setting.  The gardens were originally fully laid out in the 17th century as somewhere to grow medicinal plants at the time when the use of plants in medicine for all kind of ailments and supposed ailments was at a height.

The location beside the River Thames gives a wonderfully mild climate in which many plants not native to the U.K. can thrive – giving the visitor the chance to stroll through a range of displayed plants from around the globe.  Naturally, the mild weather here also makes this a lovely spot for a walk in winter.

Travel:  The Chelsea Physic Garden is within walking distance of Harrington Court Apartments – if you enjoy walking and the weather is suitable.  The walk will take around 20 minutes.  Otherwise, take the 360 bus from outside South Kensington Tube station to towards Elephant & Castle and get off at Chelsea Barracks for the shorter walk to the Royal Hospital Gardens.  You could go to Sloane Square by tube from South Kensington but the walking distance from Sloane Square is very little less than from South Kensington.
