Events in central London in February 2013:

If you are planning a visit to London - for business or for pleasure - during February 2013 there are plenty of events taking place to intrest you, in addition to the plans you may already have for business meeetings or sightseeing and shopping.  London has a wide range of exciting events taking place in every month of the year and these are just a small selection of the events in central London in February 2013.

From 1st February 2013

The Shard,  Joiner Street, London SE1

Love it or hate it - and there are strong arguments on both fronts - Europe's tallest building does give an unparallelled chance to look over London.  The View from The Shard opens on 1st February and invites you to view the capital city on 4 viewing floors from floors 68 to 72 - the latter is partially open to the elements, so possibly is not the best place to be in February.  The views offered are 360 degrees and across London and beyond, for up to 64 kilometres or 40 miles. express lifts take just 30 seconds to take you from the Ground Floor to the viewing platforms to an anthem performed by the London Symphony Orchestra and the joyful Company of Singers.  On the Ground Floor, video screens display digital maps of the city and films of city life.  In the viewing gallers, digital touchscreen telescopes enable you to look around the city in real time, identifying landmarks, as well as offering day and night time views of London.

Travel from Harrington Court Apartments:  Underground from South Kensington station to Westminster to change for the Jubilee Line to London Bridge Station.  The entrance to The Shard is adjacent to London Bridge Station.

This exciting new show explores art created in the last Ice Age - between 40,000 and 10,000 years ago and is a unique opportunity to see the world's oldest known sculptures and drawings.  Many of the sculpted pieces are fashioned in mammoth tusk and reindeer antler and the works display the modern mind at work, trying out perspectives, scales and much more.  For best effect, to illustrate the skills displayed from so many years ago, the Ice Age Art is displayed alongside works by modern scultors, such as Henry Moore, Mondrian and Matisse.  One of the most attractive pieces is a 23,000 year old abstract figure found in Lespugue, France, which inspired Picasso in his 1930's scultural works.

There are dozens of things you could do on Valentine's Day in central London - it is one of the most romantic cities in the world in many ways - and this is one option for a truly unique experience.  A themed planetarium show explores the romantic aspects of astonomy and you are offered a chance (weather permitting) of a look at the Moon through the 18 tonne Victorian telescope as well as spend some of the evening on the Prime Meridian - this is the home of Greenwich Meantime after all - with a red rose for each couple, some champagne and a stunning view to soak up with your partner.  In the event of poor weather, there is a special viewing of unique footage taken through the same telescope.

As one of the fashion capitals of the world, London's Fashion Week is eagerly anticipated and attracts all of the big name designers, as well as those just making their way in fashion, to a stunning show aimed at pointing the way in fashion for the year ahead.  London Fashion Week is a strictly trade only event and it brings large numbers of fashion buyers from around the world to the capital.  If you don't fall into that category, the web site alone, with its constant updates, may well be able to keep you fascinated for hours.
