London now revels in two boat shows a year. This is the original and whilst a little less conveniently set at ExCeL, that puts it alongside the River Thames and enables a vast array of boats, other water craft and related products to be put on display. Boats on show range from simple 1.4 metre long sailing dinghies to 37 metre, three deck luxury yachts of the sort we all long to have but which very, very few of us can afford. 500 exhibitors showcase their wares that cover a range from canoeing to sailing, tall ships, historic vessels and a marina full of some of the largest boats in production.
The London Boat Show is not only about the boats themselves - one of the highlights of last year's show was the Sea Queen Stage Show - a music and dance spectacular telling the story the 'The Mermaid's Tale'. There are classes for beginners as well as some for those already enjoying part of their life on the water, launches of new boats to look forward to and the Dinghy Racing Weekend. All in all a fun time for those who like messing about in boats and those who like to dream of doing so.
Travel: Harrington Court Apartments makes an excellent West End base for your visit to The London Boat Show. For your trip to ExCeL you can take the District and Circle Lines from South Kensington tube station to Westminster and change to the Jubilee Line for the ride to Canning Town, where you go up one level to take the Docklands Light Railway to Custom House for ExCeL. Alternatively, you can take the District and Circle Lines from South Kensington tube station to Tower Hill and then walk the short distance to Tower Gateway, where you can pick up the Docklands Light Railway (Beckton train) which will take you to Custom House.
