The Royal Ballet brings one of the best loved performances of its repertoire to the stage of the Royal Opera House. Kenneth McMillan choreographed Prokofiev's score for the iconic performance by Rudolph Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn in 1965 in the title roles and this version is always a powerful attraction. To follow Shakespeare’s powerful drama with an equally powerful ballet is an achievement of no mean proportions in itself and the fact that Romeo and Juliet has such powerful appeal as a ballet speaks much of the score, the choreography and, of course, the all enduring strength of the tale.
This classical ballet is performed in rich period costumes of Renaissance Verona and tells one of the world’s best known romantic dramas with a fragile beauty that makes the ballet every bit as powerful as the original play.
Travel: Take the Piccadilly Line from South Kensington tube station direct to Covent Garden. On exiting the station, turn right to walk along Long Acre and then turn right into Bow Street for the Royal Opera House.
